How does a baby grow in the first weeks of
pregnancy?
Day 1: Baby's sex, hair and eye color and height
are determined at conception.
Day 19: Baby's eyes begin to open.
Day 21: Baby's heart begins to beat.
Week 4: Baby's arms, legs and eyes can be seen.
Week 5: Baby's first brain waves can be detected.
Week 6: Baby moves and responds to touch.
Week 8: Baby sucks thumb.
Week 10: Baby's body is completely formed, even
fingerprints.
Week 13: The preborn baby moves vigorously.
How does a baby grow in the final months of
pregnancy?
After 3 months: Baby is fully formed. There is
only growth in size and maturity.
Month 5: The growing baby may jump in response
to a loud noise.
Month 6: If the baby were born during this month
and given special care, he or she could survive.
